Syracuse, N.Y. — Section III’s board of directors on Monday morning rejected the latest proposal from its high school hockey officials that would have resolved a contract dispute and ensured an uninterrupted start to the season.

As of now, it’s uncertain how many of the upcoming slate of games beginning this week can be played. Section III hockey official Vince Christian, his sport’s liaison to the sectional’s overall officials committee, said 36 of 45 officials in the Syracuse district have declared themselves currently inactive and will not work high school games. Christian said Section III executive director John Rathbun contacted him to inform him of the committee’s decision.
