Whitestown’s win streak hits six games

The Whitestown Post Legion baseball team has gotten hot as the District V regular-season nears the end.

Whitestown scored three wins over the weekend, including an 11-3 victory over Smith Post on Saturday as well as a pair of five-inning mercy-rule victories over Canastota’s Charles Miller Post a day earlier.

Whitestown has won six consecutive games since losing two one-run decisions in late-June.

Whitestown is 12-2 overall and in first place in District V with an 11-2 mark.

Over the three weekend wins, Whitestown outscored its opponents 42-6. The team has outscored opponents 117-28 this season.

In Saturday night’s win over Smith Post at Murnane Field, Whitestown overcame a 1-0 deficit with four runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead for good. Whitestown added five runs over the next two innings and two more in the seventh. Whitestown finished with 15 hits.

Caleb Miller contributed on both sides for Whitestown. He earned his third win on the mound allowing two earned runs on five hits and struck out four while walking three and hitting two in six innings.

He also finished 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles, a walk, a stolen base and four runs.

Colin Skermont totaled three RBIs while going 3-for-4 with three singles, a walk and two runs. Ty Kane and Ty Montrose each added two RBI. DaShawn Hutchinson finished 1-for-3 with a single, a walk, was hit by a pitch, had two stolen bases and added two runs and an RBI.

Smith Post (8-5) had seven hits but also totaled four errors.

Marco Macri had a double with two RBI while Jake Premo was 3-for-3 with three singles, a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Derek Holmes was 1-for-1 with two walks and was hit by a pitch while adding a run.

Smith has three regular-season games remaining, beginning with a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Adrean Post at Notre Dame High School in Utica.

Whitestown had five-inning 11-0 and 20-3 wins over Charles Miller on Friday.

In the first win, Hunter Kierpiec earned a complete-game win after striking out six while allowing three hits. It was his first win of the season.

In the second game, Hutchinson allowed no hits and walked six and hit another in three innings, while Dominic Bullis allowed one run and one hit in two innings.

In Game 1, Kody Czternastek had three singles, three runs, three stolen bases and two RBI.

Anthony Sawanec was 2-for-2 with two singles, two runs and two stolen bases.

In Game 2, Whitestown was helped by Montrose, who was 3-for-4 with three singles, a walk, 5 RBI, three runs and a stolen base. Bullis went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, two runs, two stolen bases and three RBI.

Over the two wins, Miller was 4-for-6 with three singles, a triple, two walks, six runs, two RBI and five stolen bases.

Whitestown is scheduled to play the first of its three final scheduled regular-season games this week at 6 p.m. Wednesday against New Hartford Post at New Hartford High School.

New Hartford is coming of a 16-1 victory over Charles Miller Post. No stats were available from that game.
